About University

Yerevan State Medical University is a government University. It is functioning as a state non commercial body under the Ministry of Education and Science. The University is centrally located in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan. YSMU is considered to be one of the top medical universities in Armenia. The University finds its presence with the Directory of Higher Medical Institutions adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO). It is also recognized by the Medical council of India and the degrees awarded are globally recognized

The University has its existence for a century now and has successfully trained more than 2500 doctors who are practising in different parts of the world. The students from more than 40 countries have been part of the admission process and have graduated from this prestigious university. YSMU is also recognised by the Medical Board of California, USA. As a result of which many students are practising in California. It is a hub for Indian students as well because of good passing percentage in FMGE examinations. In the current scenario, there are around 1000 Indian students pursuing different medical courses. Indian students have been going to YSMU since 1987.

Study MBBS at Yerevan State Medical University

The faculty of general medicine is operational from 1920 and offers MD degree which is equivalent to MBBS in India. The duration of the course is 6 years which includes one year of compulsory internship. In this University, the students get exposed to both theoretical and clinical disciplines. The interested students also get to narrow down their research in specialized areas. The medium of instruction for international students is English. The student-instructor ratio at this University is 1:8 that ensures focussed training for every student. The University has a large community campus with Heratsi University hospital Complex that has 14 clinics, an outpatient clinic, diagnostic laboratories, and ancillary facilities. Apart from the MBBS course, the University also offers courses for Dentistry, Pharmacy, Military Medicine, and Public Health.

Eligibility Criteria for admission at YSMU
  • The student must have completed a minimum of 17 years of age on or before December 31st on the year of admission and must be less than 25 years of age.
  • The candidate must have secured 50% marks in aggregate in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) and must pass in each subject individually in their XIIth examination from a recognised board.
  • Candidates must qualify NEET examinations with minimum 50 percentile marks which means the marks should be better than 50% of all students appearing for the examination.
  • The candidate must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology which is popularly known as PCB in India as a subject in their 10+2
Hostel facilities at YSMU

  • The university provides a hostel on campus for international students. There are separate hostel wings for boys and girls available on a sharing basis.
  • The hostels are furnished with basic amenities and are centrally heated.
  • Hostel residents receive free breakfast on working days. Indian food is also available. Every floor has a kitchen where students can prepare their meal if they don't want to avail the facilities of the cafeteria.
  • All other facilities like Wifi, security, sports ground, hot and cold water, electricity. Television lounge, reading rooms, etc are available free of cost for the students.

Opportunities after doing MBBS from YSMU
  • As the University is recognised by the medical council, students can come back to India and practice medicine after qualifying the screening test conducted by MCI. Screening test is mandatory for all students who complete their MBBS/MD from abroad.
  • The students can also practice in other countries like the USA after qualifying the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE)
  • Students can also apply for government jobs in India once they are registered with the medical council.
  • The facility of internship can be availed at any private or government colleges for a duration of one year after qualifying the screening test conducted by MCI.
